Connector Lines

Connector lines allow you to link shapes, diagrams, or text elements, making it easier to create flowcharts, diagrams, and visually engaging presentations on your whiteboard.

Adding connector lines

To start adding connector lines between elements:

  1. Select the Connect tool from the toolbar, represented by a curved arrow icon, or press J.
  2. Click on the element you want to start from. A small circle will appear at connection points, indicating where the line can be attached.
  3. Drag the line to another element and release it at a connection point. The line will snap into place, connecting the two elements.

Customizing connector lines

You can customize the appearance of your connector lines to suit your design.

With a connector line selected, use the properties panel that appears to adjust line styles, colors, thickness, and arrowheads.

Modifying connector lines

To adjust or edit existing connector lines:

  1. Click on the connector line to activate the editing mode.
  2. Drag the red and blue nodes to reposition the line or change its curvature.

You can also add midpoints by dragging the line itself to create more complex paths.

To remove a connector line, select it and press the Delete key on your keyboard, or right-click and choose the delete option from the context menu.

Connector line behavior

When you move connected shapes, the connector lines will adjust and stay connected, maintaining the relationship between elements.

If you wish to disconnect a line from an element, click on the connection point and drag it away.

Best practices for using connector lines

Use contrasting colors for connector lines to enhance visibility against your background.

Keep your lines as direct as possible to avoid unnecessary overlaps, ensuring your diagrams remain clear and easy to understand.
